Glenn Brown, Vice President

I grew up mostly in the New Jersey area, and graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA with a BS in Industrial Engineering, and the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO with an MBA.  I was hired by US WEST (then called Mountain Bell, now known as Qwest) in Denver, CO in 1971.  Over my 28 years with US WEST I held a number of management positions in the marketing and public policy areas.  The majority of my work was in the public policy arena where I represented the company’s interests before state regulatory bodies, the Federal Communications Commission and the United States Congress.  In 1993 I transferred to Washington, DC where I was actively involved in the development and implementation of the landmark Telecommunications Act of 1996.

In 1999 I took early retirement from US WEST and relocated to Phoenix, AZ where my wife Nancy and I opened our own business, McLean & Brown Telecommunication Consultants.  Our business serves rural independent telephone companies, and represents their public policy interests in both the state and federal arenas.  After our first summer in Phoenix we realized that we need a summer home in a cooler environment and bought our first home in the Village of Oak Creek.  In 2004 we sold our Phoenix home and became full-time VOCA residents.  In 2007 I decided to scale back my business activities (and brutal travel schedule) to become more involved in community life.

We are blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and I strongly believe that each of us has an obligation and duty to give back to our community.  I currently serve as Chairman of the VOCA House & Grounds Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Administration Commission at the Church of the Red Rocks, and a member of Keep Sedona Beautiful.  I believe that my management experience and problem solving skills can help the VOCA Board as we manage through difficult economic times, and as we plan for the bright future that lies ahead.
